House Rules

The House Rules have evolved over the years since the Club’s formation in 1956. These, together with the Club Rules and terms of the Premises License, constitute the rules by which people must conduct themselves while visiting St Julians. Failure to adhere to the rules of St Julians Club may result in suspension or termination of membership.

Club Facilities

The Club is open throughout the year and the facilities are located on the ground floor of St Julians and in the grounds. These are the Club house with several comfortable rooms and lawns with benches for drinking and dining, swimming pools (April to October), tennis courts, play areas, gardens and a woodland walk. The Club is open daily with seasonally varying opening hours and regular events for members. Membership is non-transferable and only applies to the named person(s) included in the membership. You must sign in at the welcome desk when you arrive at the Club.

Membership Types

Full membership covers the use of all Club facilities. Country membership is a Full membership for those who live over 10 miles in a direct line from St Julians Club.

Social membership is for the use of the bar and restaurant facilities of the Club, gardens, woodland walk and some play areas (excluding the fenced pool area). Social members are not entitled to use the swimming pools and tennis courts or buy Guest Tickets (see ‘Guests’) for themselves or their guests to use these facilities.

Restaurant and Bar

All members may use our bar and restaurant facilities including barista coffee, breakfast, lunch, snacks, evening meals and drinks for members and their guests (see ‘Guests’). Seasonal opening and dining hours can be found on our website.

Swimming Pools

The pools are open daily from April until October with the opening times varying seasonally.

St Julians DOES NOT provide lifeguards and the swimming pools are totally unsupervised. Although fenced, the pool area is accessible with a coded entry. When in the fenced area children MUST be accompanied by an adult member, who is responsible for their conduct and safety. Children must be supervised at the poolside by an adult member when swimming and if their parent(s) are on the premises they must also be poolside with the adult member. This applies to members under 16 and guests under 18. We take this very seriously and any unsupervised child found in the pool area or in the pools will be asked to leave and your membership may be revoked.

For your own safety, please read the pool rules signs located in the pool area and take notice of the pool depth markings. Do not swim alone or immediately following a meal. In case of emergency please sound the alarm and use the phone to summon assistance.

Diving is not permitted in the shallow end of the main pool. Diving is forbidden in the smaller pools. Non-swimmers and learners must be carefully supervised at the poolside by a responsible adult and may only use the shallow end of the main swimming pool.

Balls are not permitted in the swimming pools. Please do not play ball games in the swimming pool area. Lilos, flippers and similar articles are not allowed in the pool. Only non-swimmers are allowed suitable inflatables to assist with their swimming. No-one may indulge in such activities as pushing or throwing others into the water, ducking or similar horse-play in or around the pool. No ‘bombing’. Please refrain from running and jumping around the pool.

Do not consume alcohol in the pool area. Do not swim while intoxicated. Glasses, bottles and crockery are not permitted within the pool area. The swimming pool area is entirely non-smoking. The swimming pool area is out of bounds outside of opening hours.

Tennis Courts

The tennis courts may be booked by the hour, on the hour up to two weeks ahead, by telephone or at the welcome desk during the Club opening hours. Nobody may book singles for more than 1 hour or doubles for more than 2 hours in any one session (irrespective of the person booking the court). However, this rule is not applicable if the court is NOT booked for the succeeding hour and/or no one is waiting or subsequently arrives and wishes to play. If a booking is not taken up within 15 minutes of the time reserved, the booking lapses and the court becomes available to the first member claiming it. If members are waiting to use a court they must make themselves known to the players already on the court. If you have booked and subsequently do not intend to use the court please telephone to cancel.

Guests may only use the courts while playing with or against members, and the guest fee must be paid in advance of playing (see ‘Guests’)

Gardens & Woodland Walk

The gardens and play areas are open to all members (except those within the fenced pool area which are only available to Full and Country members). We have swings, a sandpit, low ropes, climbing frames, slides and table tennis. There is also a 2km woodland walk. Parents are required to accompany their children when using the St Julians gardens and woodland walk.

Picnics

You may picnic in the gardens and pool area. The house and outside tables on the bar lawns and terrace are reserved only for those dining from the Club. Glasses, bottles and crockery are not permitted beyond the bar lawns and terrace. Some dishes on the menus are available to order for takeaway into the gardens and pool area: speak to a member of staff when ordering. Disposable BBQs are not permitted.

Guests

All members over 18 can entertain guests at the Club. Sign your guests in at the welcome desk on arrival. The adult member must accompany their guest(s) for the duration of the visit and is responsible for the visitor(s) observing the Club Rules and House Rules. Guests may only remain at the Club with the member who has signed them in, and the member is responsible for payment of purchases made at the Club during the guests’ visit. The same guest may not visit St Julians Club more than four times in any one period of twelve months.

Under normal circumstances, six guests are permitted per membership household per day to visit the Club.

When entertaining a group larger than the guest allowance for a visit for a meal, members may hire a private room.

Swimming and Tennis Guests

ull and Country members over 18 may invite guests to join them poolside, swim and play tennis for which there is a daily fee (‘Guest Ticket’). You must buy Guest Tickets in advance of using the facilities. Pay by telephone or at the welcome desk when you arrive at the Club. The fee applies to all guests age 3+.

A Guest Ticket is required for a non-member guest to play tennis. Pay either when booking or at the welcome desk before you play.

When bringing non-member guest(s) to the Club when you are going to the pool area please note the following:

A Guest Ticket is required for a non-member guest to swim. A Guest Ticket is required for every non-member guest in the fenced pool area, even if they are not swimming. Your guests must remain with you for the duration of their visit.

If you bring a family of guests to the Club and any of those guests will be swimming with you, Guest Tickets will be required for the whole family of guests to be poolside with you. We do not have lifeguards so guest children must be adequately supervised when poolside and swimming by their parent(s) if they are at the Club. The Guest Ticket fee applies.

The Club reserves the right to limit the number of Guest Tickets available each day.

Children

Members are asked to stay with and carefully supervise their children and child guests whilst visiting St Julians and are responsible for their safety, conduct and behaviour. Do not drop your children off at St Julians for an unsupervised visit. Children included in a Family membership aged under 16 and guests under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult member when visiting any part of the Club. Children included in a Family membership aged between 16 and 18 may come unaccompanied to St Julians on the understanding that the House Rules shall be respected, however they are not permitted to bring guests to the Club (see ‘Guests’).

Nanny membership

We make a special arrangement for a named nanny to be included on a family membership by prior arrangement (there is a fee for this). This enables the nanny to bring your children to the Club in your absence and be the adult responsible for your children while visiting the Club. You are required to ensure that your nanny understands the rules of the Club prior to visiting, with particular attention paid to the Swimming Pool Rules. A nanny membership is not a separate individual adult membership. They are only able to visit the Club with the children named on your membership and are not able to bring their own families or other adult guests to the Club. Nannies may bring child guests if organised by one of the primary adults of the Family membership.

Out of Bounds

The upper floors and certain other areas of the house and gardens are private residences. Please abide by the notices identifying areas that are out of bounds to members. The outbuildings and fenced kitchen garden are out of bounds to Club members.

Conduct & Dress

Please be respectful of other member’s personal space and be mindful of other members when taking photos or videos at the Club. Please also be respectful towards the Club staff. When leaving the Club at night, please leave quietly so as not to disturb our residents and neighbours. You are not permitted to play amplified music at St Julians unless by prior arrangement. Smoking and vaping are not permitted within the grounds of St Julians. The designated smoking area is in the car park. We ask that members do not play ball games in any areas where people are dining or relaxing in the grounds: football may only be played in the area designated above the orchard. Adults and children must wear suitable clothes and footwear inside the Club and adjacent to the house on the bar lawns and terrace: swimwear, towels and bathrobes are not sufficient.

Lost Property

We cannot take responsibility for property lost but items, if found, will be stored in the Club until the end of the summer each year.

Dogs

NO DOGS are permitted in any part of the club including the grounds, woodland, in cars or the car park.

Parking

Do not park in the circle: the overflow car park is in the field. The parking area closest to the house is for disabled badge holders.

First Aid

Accidents and incidents must be reported at the welcome desk. If you need help please speak to any member of staff who will alert the first aid qualified member of staff on duty. First aid kits are located at the following places: Kiosk, Bar, Kitchen, Welcome Desk and Club Office. Two fully automatic defibrillators are on the premises: on the decking and in the pool area.

Fire

In case of a fire alarm please follow fire exit signs and go to the assembly point in the upper car park. In the case of a false alarm or drill do not re-enter the house until a member of staff instructs you that it is safe to do so.
